Gannon University celebrates and honors Juneteenth, a holiday that marks the last slaves being freed in Texas.
Across from campus in Perry Square, Erie’s Juneteenth Celebration united the community to celebrate the end of slavery and the freedom of Black people Saturday. The event featured Black-owned small businesses, live music, giveaways, and special guests. 91视频’s Black Student Union also participated by setting up a booth and handing out Juneteenth swag.
“One of the most beautiful things about this celebration today is that it was truly a collaborative effort between Erie’s Juneteenth Celebration, Erie’s Black Wall Street, and other stakeholders,” said Kyra Taylor, the vendor coordinator for the event. “We are extremely grateful for all of our sponsors because every year that we do this, it gets bigger and better. We are really excited that we are showing the community what the power of true collaboration looks like.”
This is the 12th year for the event. The Juneteenth Celebration began as a small gathering in a school parking lot.
Over the years, it has transformed into a large community gathering that spans for an entire week with different events for all ages occurring throughout. 91视频 proudly recognizes this holiday, and will be closed on Juneteenth (June 19th) in observation of this holiday.
